How to Manage Anxiety in Daily Life

Anxiety can show up as constant worry, overthinking, or restlessness. Learning to manage it can make daily life feel calmer and more balanced.

Anxiety is something many people experience in their everyday lives. It can show up as constant worry, overthinking, restlessness, or a feeling that something might go wrong. While occasional anxiety is normal, learning how to manage it can make daily life feel calmer and more balanced.

One helpful step is becoming aware of your thoughts. Often, anxiety grows when our mind starts imagining worst-case scenarios. Try gently questioning these thoughts and bringing your attention back to the present moment.

Simple practices like deep breathing, short walks, journaling, or talking to someone you trust can also reduce anxiety. Maintaining regular sleep, eating well, and limiting excessive caffeine or screen time can make a noticeable difference.

Most importantly, remind yourself that it is okay to seek help. Speaking with a counsellor or therapist can provide tools and support to better understand and manage anxiety.

Healthy Communication in Relationships

When partners express feelings openly and listen with understanding, it strengthens trust and emotional connection.

Communication is one of the most important foundations of any healthy relationship. When partners are able to express their feelings openly and listen to each other with understanding, it strengthens trust and emotional connection.

Healthy communication means speaking honestly while also being respectful. Instead of blaming or criticizing, it can help to use "I feel" statements, such as "I feel hurt when…" rather than "You always…". This reduces defensiveness and encourages understanding.

Listening is just as important as speaking. Giving your partner space to express themselves without interruption helps them feel heard and valued.

Small habits such as checking in with each other, expressing appreciation, and discussing concerns calmly can make a big difference. With time and effort, communication can become a tool that brings partners closer rather than creating distance.

The Science of Self-Compassion: Why Being Kind to Yourself Isn't Selfish

Many people find it easier to be kind to a stranger than to themselves. Research shows self-compassion is one of the strongest predictors of wellbeing.

Research on self-compassion shows that how we treat ourselves during moments of failure or pain has a profound impact on our mental health — often more than the events themselves.

Self-compassion has three key components: mindfulness (acknowledging suffering without exaggerating or ignoring it), common humanity (recognizing that suffering is part of the shared human experience), and self-kindness (treating yourself with the same care you would offer a good friend).

The good news is that self-compassion is a skill. It can be practiced and strengthened over time. In counselling, we often work on the inner critic — that harsh internal voice — and gently replace it with something kinder and more honest. You deserve the same compassion you so freely give to others.

Things people often wonder about

Counselling can feel unfamiliar at first. These are the questions I hear most often.

Still have questions? →
Counselling is a confidential, professional relationship where you can explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours in a safe space. It helps you understand patterns, develop healthier coping strategies, and work toward the life you want — whether that means healing, clarity, or simply feeling less alone.
You don't need to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. If you're feeling consistently overwhelmed, stuck, anxious, or disconnected — or if something is affecting your relationships, work, or quality of life — counselling can help. You can also come simply to understand yourself better.
Yes — research consistently shows that online counselling is just as effective as face-to-face sessions for most concerns, including anxiety, depression, and relationship issues. Many clients find it easier to open up from the comfort and privacy of their own space.
The first session is relaxed and conversational. We'll discuss what brought you here, a bit about your background, and what you'd like to achieve. There is no pressure to share more than you are comfortable with — we go at your pace entirely.
Each session is Appx 45–60 minutes long. The number of sessions varies by person — some find 6–8 sessions very helpful, while others prefer longer-term support. We will regularly review your progress and decide together.
Absolutely. Everything you share is strictly confidential. We follow professional ethical guidelines to protect your privacy. The only exception would be a serious and immediate risk to safety — and even then, we would communicate openly with you.
You can connect via WhatsApp, phone, or email. We will respond within 24 hours to schedule a time that works for you.
Sessions are conducted via Zoom or Google Meet. You will receive a private link prior to each session. No special software is required — a phone or laptop with a camera and microphone, and a quiet private space, is all that is needed.
Session fees are available on request. Please connect via WhatsApp or email and we will be happy to share all details. We believe counselling should be accessible and are open to discussing suitable options.
If you are in immediate distress or crisis, please contact iCall (India) at 9152987821 or the Vandrevala Foundation Helpline at 1860-2662-345 (available 24/7). While we deeply care about every client, we are not a crisis service and may not be immediately reachable. Please do contact a helpline first in urgent situations.
